We are on a quest to find the top Regional Brands in the country. These items were found last week in San Fransisco.
To be considered a brand must be:
1. Owned locally (local = 1/2 day drive from where it is purchased)
2. Available in mainstream retail distribution (these items were found in Safeway shelved next to national competition)
Local and regional brands can differentiate themselves from national branded and Private Label competition by communicating 4 unique consumer benefits; Unique ocal taste or varieties; Personal sustainability, Local economic sustainability and Global sustainability.
How do these items rank? On local taste and variety - pretty well. The varieties reflect either the Hispanic culinary traditions of the regions and/or the agricultural richness of the Napa Valley.
What are they missing? No mention of the fact that they are locally owned or locally grown! Communicated properly the local benefits could truly differentiate these items from the national and private label competition.
Hats off to these brands! Keep up the great work.
Want to include your local brand in our quest for the best? Drop us a note with a brief overview of your brand and photo of your product line. In the meantime, stay tuned as we travel the globe, or at least the country, for more great regional and local brands.
